UCLA's BGreen Consulting presents: Green Solutions Competition

Given the University of California’s Sustainable Practices Policy, what solution ideas do you have to help UCLA achieve its sustainability goals?

From April 18 to 27, students in groups of 4 can submit their overall solution ideas to improve UCLA’s sustainability and fulfill the University of California Sustainable Practices Policy objectives. Solution ideas should be implementable within one year and have a low cost or a minimum payback period of 5 years.

From April 27 to May 4, the public will vote on the ideas. Students, channel your offline and online social networks to get votes. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, you name it! Tell everyone you know to vote.

The top-voted submission will win one $100 gift card to ASUCLA establishments. Groups with the top 10 voted ideas will advance to the next stage, where you will create a business proposal for your solution and present it to a panel of judges in two rounds on June 2 from 9am to 4pm at UCLA’s Ackerman Union. The winners will be announced following the two rounds of judging, and will be awarded $400 to various ASUCLA establishments, have their solution published on GOOD.is, and have the opportunity to work closely with the Facilities Commission to implement their solution.

Submission tips:

• Include the names and class levels of all your group members (up to 4 students per group)
• Give a brief overview of 3-5 sentences on your solution: What is your solution idea and, briefly, how you would go about implementing it?

• This challenge is open to UCLA undergraduates only. Students from any major (with a minimum GPA of 3.0) can form groups of up to 4 and submit solution ideas.
• The Challenge is open for submissions from April 18 to April 27.
• Submitted solution ideas must be: (1) Implementable within one year and (2) Have minimal cost or a payback period of less than 5 years.
• Public voting will be open from April 27 to May 4.
• At least one member from each group must attend the Business Proposal Writing Workshop on May 2 from 5pm to 8pm at the UCLA Career Center (2nd Floor). Professor George Abe from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management will provide tips for writing and presenting a business proposal, as well as the judging evaluation criteria.
• The Top 10 voted submissions will advance to create and present business proposal for their ideas. Proposals will be presented and judged in two rounds on June 2 at UCLA’s Ackerman Union from 9am-4pm.
• The top-voted submission will win one $100 gift card to ASUCLA establishments.
• The judges will select one winning team, who will be awarded $400 to ASUCLA establishments, have their solutions published in GOOD, and have the opportunity to work closely with UCLA’s Facilities Commission to implement their solution.
